National Dog Day: Celebrate Your Four-Legged Best Friend 🐾 Wednesday 26th August 2026

For many of us, dogs aren't just pets – they're part of the family. They're there to greet us at the door, keep us company on walks, make us laugh with their funny little habits and, somehow, always know when we need a cuddle.

So, with National Dog Day just around the corner on Wednesday 26th August, what better excuse to celebrate the dogs who bring so much joy to our lives?

What is National Dog Day?

National Dog Day takes place every year on 26th August and celebrates dogs of all breeds, sizes and personalities. The day was founded in 2004 by animal advocate Colleen Paige, with the aim of celebrating our canine companions while also highlighting the many dogs waiting for loving homes.

It's a day to celebrate everything we love about dogs – from the energetic puppy who never seems to run out of energy, to the older dog who has been by your side for years.

And let's be honest… isn't every day really National Dog Day when you have a dog?

Why our dogs mean so much to us

Dogs have a wonderful way of becoming part of our everyday lives.

They're there for the morning walk, the evening sofa snuggle and all those little moments in between. They have their own personalities, their own favourite toys, their own routines – and, of course, their own very individual ways of letting us know when dinner is late!

Dogs Trust's National Dog Survey found that 94% of people consider their dogs part of the family, while 80% describe their dog as their best friend.

It's no wonder that so many of us love finding ways to keep a little reminder of our four-legged friends close.

Celebrate your dog in your own way

National Dog Day doesn't need to involve anything complicated. Sometimes the simplest things mean the most.

🐾 Take your dog on their favourite walk.

🐾 Give them an extra-long cuddle.

🐾 Treat them to their favourite snack.

🐾 Take some new photos together.

🐾 Donate to a local dog rescue or charity.

🐾 Share your favourite photo of your dog with friends and family.

Or, if your dog has a particularly special place in your heart, choose a keepsake that reminds you of them every day.

A little piece of your best friend

At Life Charms, we love the idea that jewellery can tell a story.

Our dog-inspired bracelets are designed for dog lovers who want to carry a little reminder of their favourite four-legged friend wherever they go.

Whether you're a proud dog mum, dog dad, have a special breed that has captured your heart, or simply can't resist anything with four paws, a dog charm can be a lovely way to celebrate that special bond.

And they make thoughtful gifts too – especially for someone whose dog is quite simply their world.

Because every dog has a story

Every dog is different.

Some are mischievous. Some are gentle. Some think they're lap dogs despite being considerably too large. Some steal socks. Some bark at absolutely nothing. And some seem to know exactly when you need them most.

That's what makes the bond between people and their dogs so special.

This National Dog Day, take a moment to celebrate the dog who makes your life a little happier, your walks a little longer and your home a little more full of love.

Because they're not just our pets. They're family. ❤️🐾
